Radio In Altum: Every Video in Order (1 Track 1 Synth, Synth Stories and Overcoming GAS)

By Jairo Oliva Jofer · October 21, 2026 · 5 min read · Videos on the Radio In Altum channel

Short answer: Radio In Altum is a YouTube channel about synths, free plugin emulations and music production, made by Eric Frizzo Jonsson, who also writes here under the name Jairo Oliva Jofer. This page lists every video so far, in order of purpose, so you can find the one you need without scrolling the channel.

The channel started in October 2026 with one idea: take a famous synth, tell its story, and then make a whole track with only that synth. It has since grown a few other formats. Here is how they fit together.

Start here: the newest video

The newest 1 Track 1 Synth episode uses the JE-8086, the free emulation of the Roland JP-8000. Every melodic sound comes from it. It has no drum presets, so the drums are samples. The video shows the presets chosen, how they are shaped, and a quick arrangement in Ableton Live 12 (minimal house, deep tech).

Gear news: the open-source wave (October 2026)

In the last week of October 2026 the channel covered a run of announcements: Behringer opened the firmware of three new boxes, and Akai answered with open firmware of its own. Each topic has its own article with sources and caveats.

1. Synth Stories: the history of the synth, and the free emulation

Short narrated videos. Half history, half "how do I get it for free".

2. 1 Track 1 Synth: one track, one synth

3. Presets, no talking

Just the sounds, for when you want to hear what a synth can do before you install it.

One Sequencer, One Emulation

A jam format: one hardware sequencer driving every part of one free emulation, no mouse.

4. Overcoming GAS (with GAS)

GAS is Gear Acquisition Syndrome. This series takes an expensive new flagship and compares it with smaller, cheaper combos that fit in a backpack.

The four combos in that episode, with the prices given in the video description (euros):

OptionGearPrice
Combo 1Erica Synths Bullfrog Drums + Dreadbox Nymphes + Cre8audio Boom Chick€1,422
Combo 2Akai MPC Key 37 + Vermona drumDING€2,248
Combo 3Elektron Digitakt II + Elektron Digitone II + Behringer Edge€1,922
Combo 4Eurorack in a 4ms Pod 64HP case: Nano Modules Octa, Erica Synths Perkons Voice, ALM Pamela's Pro Workout, Expert Sleepers Disting NT + TMB€1,854
FlagshipsRoland TR-1000 / Polyend Drums€2,699 each

Prices as listed in the video description on the day it was published. Prices change, so check the shops. Correction from the channel: in the video the Polyend Drums is mistakenly called "Novation".

5. The archive: Duc in Altum

Before the synth series, the channel held older music from the Duc in Altum project, uploaded in February 2018:

A good order to watch

  1. The Virus TI story, then 1 Track 1 Synth #1 (short and quick).
  2. The Microwave XT story, then 1 Track 1 Synth #2 (Step by Step) and Part 2.
  3. The no-talking preset videos, to hear each synth alone.
  4. 1 Track 1 Synth #3 with the JE-8086.
  5. Overcoming GAS, if you are thinking of buying gear.

Support 1 Track 1 Synth

The series is free on YouTube. If it helped you, you can support it with any amount you want. The goal: a Vermona drumDING for the studio, and more episodes with real hardware.

FAQ

Where should I start on the Radio In Altum channel?

If you want the story first, start with the two Synth Stories videos (Virus TI and Waldorf Microwave XT). If you want to see music being made, start with 1 Track 1 Synth #1. If you are deciding what gear to buy, go to the Overcoming GAS video.

Are the synth plugins used in the videos free?

Yes. OsTIrus, Xenia and JE-8086 are free and open source emulations by The Usual Suspects. The original firmware of each synth is not included, and you have to supply it yourself, following the developers' instructions.

What does 1 Track 1 Synth mean?

Each episode builds a track using one single synth for the melodic sounds. The point is to learn one instrument deeply instead of jumping between many.

Do I need to pay for anything to follow the series?

No. The videos are free on YouTube. There is an optional pay-what-you-want link for people who want to support the series.
